Introduction Media Archiver is an application based on Qt4 and C++. It has been and is still under development as a hobby project and it has no waranty at all. It is licensed under the GNU General Public License. Its intention is to serve as a computer portable and other media storage center. In it you can store your media, keep track of to who you lended some medium or from who you borrowed a CD i.e. It is aimed towards home users, but I do have an intention to make it able being used in a bussines as well, particulary for movie or other medium lending companyes. The application was developed at first for my own need and after a while I've published it so it may serve someone else. But non the less the aplication is still in BETA version and there is many more code to be writen for it, and many other things to do. So there for I'm looking for volentiers to help me with this project. For more info please contact me on the above e-mail. Currently Media Archiver is developed and maintained only by myself and I can't give it my 100% of time as it is still just a hobby project. 1. Participate I am looking for much help with this project on many occasions. The main ones are: - Development, need one or two Qt C++ programmers that would like to help in programing the application. - Graphics design, mainly for application icons which have been by now taken from Crystal Diamond KDE and Crystal AVG KDE icon sets and a bit modified by myself. But I would like to design icons completely from scratch, at least the List View ones. - Translations, for now the application is in only two languages. First one is in Slovenian witch is my native language and the second is in English witch is the only foreign language that I know good enough to translate it. So I am looking for translators, one time only translators witch translate only one version of the application are welcome as well as long term translation maintainers. - Packagers, I am also looking for packagers which will package the application. For now I am doing .tgz package for Slackware maintaining on my own, but I would still need someone to do other operating system packaging. 2. Downloading As mentioned earlyer Media Archiver comes in three packages for Linux. Source package, Slackware .tgz package and compiled binary package being available in a BitRock Install Builder installer. Download the source code: mediaarchiver-0.3.1.tar.gz Download the Slackware package: mediaarchiver-0.3.1-noarch-1.tgz Download the Linux Installer, builded with BitRock InstallBuilder: mediaarchiver-0.3.1-linux-installer.bin.gz To install system wide with install builder run it with root privileges. Target directory gets deleted in the and and files go to their positions in /usr. v0.3 does not include bussiness options at this point as I ran out of time and it was time that I released a new version. Maybe those options will be available in the next release. 3. Development release Why? From now on I will be releasing development releases, because I don't have much time to develop Media Archiver. And to show you that this project is still active I will every now and then release a development release, some kind of a development snapshot. These releases are however highly unstable and prone to data loss. Please use the development release under extreme caution! Make backups before you install the development release. Development release is only available as a GunZipped Tarball, source only. Current development release: mediaarchiver-dev1-0.3.1.1.tar.gz 4. Compile from source To compile from soure you need to have installed: Qt4 from TrollTech.com GCC from GCC.GNU.org GNU Make from GNU.org and Tar from GNU.org First we need to untar the archive: tar xvf mediaarchiver-0.3.0.1.tar.gz and now cd into a newly created directory: cd mediaarchiver-0.3.0.1 Now we create a Makefile witch GNU Make will read and start compiling the source code: qmake -o Makefile mediaarhiver.pro and let's compile: make To install Media Archiver we must run: make install Note that this command must be run as root. Either su to root or run the above command with sudo. The installation creates a menu entry. Run it to run the application or run it from the console with: ma 5. Windows/Mac version Mac version is not yet available.
